Abu Dhabi International Airport has moved the majority of passenger flights from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3. The move comes after the airport closed Terminal 2 earlier this week. Check-in for most flights out of AUH will now be at Terminal 3. Select flights from Air India, Air India Express and Biman Bangladesh are still operating from Terminal 1. Airport authorities recommended that passengers check the correct terminal with their airline before travelling to the airport. The move "reflects Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to delivering efficient operations and a seamless passenger experience", said airport authorities in a statement. "Earlier this week, Terminal 2 was closed down – it was very lightly utilised so we shut it down. As of today, we'll be curtailing operations in Terminal 1," Bryan Thompson, chief executive at Abu Dhabi Airports told The National. “This allows us not only to have consolidated operations, reducing the cost burden on Abu Dhabi, but it also allows us to have contingency plans in place should we need to move passengers around. “We still have enough room for passengers to be able to remain segregated from each other, but it allows us to take terminals, clean them, and keep them ready in case we require them." Despite current travel restrictions, several flights are still departing in and out of Abu Dhabi International Airport. Most are via Etihad, but other airlines that continue to fly include Middle East Airlines, Oman Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Egypt Air, Malaysia Airlines and Korean Air. Reducing operations primarily to one terminal comes at a time when passenger numbers are low. UAE residents who are abroad will not be allowed to re-enter the country for two weeks from today (March 19) and Emirati nationals have been banned from travelling for two weeks. The country has also stopped issuing visas, including visas on arrival. Transit passengers are not affected by the new rules.
