Going green to boost sales

BRITAIN // A plan to stimulate flagging car sales and reduce the number of polluting cars on the road has been introduced in Britain. Under the scheme, motorists who trade in cars that are more than 10 years old will get £2,000 (Dh11,670) cash back. The joint manufacturer-government incentive has already been pioneered in Germany, France and Italy. The programme in Germany improved new car sales by 20 per cent. Japan is considering a similar plan but might instead create a scheme to boost sales of hybrids and electric cars. Initially, the British programme is expected to run until March 2010.
