Bugatti Divo, Ferrari Pista Spider and more at Monterey Car Week – in pictures

Bugatti, Ferrari, Bentley and a host of other top car companies used this year's Monterey Car Week and its umbrella of events to take the wraps off some of their flashiest new models and special editions this weekend.

The undeniable highlight was Bugatti's new hypercar, the Divo, which was shown off at The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering.

As with the Bugatti Chiron, it is a 1,500hp monster powered by the French carmaker's 8.0-litre W16 engine.

Improved aerodynamics, suspension and chassis settings, however, mean that the Divo is 35 kilograms lighter and has 90kg more downforce than the Chiron, with a limited maximum speed of 380kph.

Want to own one? Tough luck: all 40 vehicles, with a price tag of €5 million (Dh21.4m) each, have already been sold.

If you're merely a millionaire rather than a billionaire, you can instead get scrabbling under your sofa cushions for enough dirhams to buy a Ferrari 488 Pista Spider, which made its debut at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach.

How many dirhams, exactly? Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be comfortably north of Dh1m.

Those seven figures will afford you quite the drop-top, race-tuned sports car, in follow-up to the 488 Pista Coupe, which was first announced in February this year.

With 710hp, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo engine is the most powerful Ferrari V8 ever.

There was also a new world record set for most expensive car ever sold at auction, with a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO put under the hammer by R M Sotheby’s, eventually selling for US$48.4m (Dh177.8m). To put that into context, for that sum, you could have purchased two Bugatti Divos, with enough change to grab three or four Ferrari 488 Pista Spiders.

The UAE's own Fenyr SuperSport, by Dubai-based hypercar-maker W Motors, also made its US bow at Monterey.
