CHITA, KANSAS // The custom bike manufacturer Big Dog Motorcycles will be cutting seven weeks out of its production schedule between now and the end of the year in order to slash costs in the face of falling sales.
A four-week production stoppage is now in place and staff have also taken a temporary 20 per cent pay cut. Big Dog is not planning to lay off any workers.
The company has been in business since 1994, starting out with just one model, and since then has built nearly 25,000 custom bikes.
Despite the slowdown, the company is in talks to open distributors in Europe and the Middle East.
