The largest flawless D-colour diamond to ever come to auction, will land in the UAE on October 17.
The 163.41-carat diamond features on a diamond and emerald necklace that's part of a partnership titled The Art of de Grisogono, between Christie's auction house and illustrious jeweller de Grisogono.
“Over our 251 year history, Christie’s has had the privilege of handling the world’s rarest and most historic diamonds," says Rahul Kadakia, international head of Christie's Jewels. "The sensational 163.41-carat perfect diamond suspended from an elegant emerald and diamond necklace propels de Grisogono into a class of their own.”
The diamond was discovered in February 2016 at the Lulo mine in Angola. It was cut from a 404-carat rough diamond, reported to be the 27th largest rough white diamond ever discovered.
After 50 different design proposals for the diamond were created, the final design was chosen this February. Emeralds were incorporated because of de Grisogono founder Fawaz Gruosi's superstitious belief that they carry good luck. A team of 14 craftsmen spent over 1,700 hours to create the necklace, which will tour Hong Kong, London, Dubai and New York before landing in Geneva for the Christie's auction on November 14.
The record-breaking necklace can be viewed in Dubai from October 17 to 19.
