Cristiano Ronaldo and Jacqueline Fernandez join us in Dubai, as the Kardashians, Hemsworths and Jonas's took in some snowy scenes, and everyone else headed to the Maldives

While we were watching the fireworks here in the UAE, stars around the globe were enjoying their own New Year's Eve celebrations at home and on holiday. Here's how some of our favourite celebs rang in 2019.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas

The newly weds spent the holidays with the family – including Joe Jonas and his fiancée Sophie Turner – in the Swiss Alps, and it looks like they saw in the New Year there, too.

Jacqueline Fernandez

The Bollywood actress recently arrived in Dubai with her family and stayed to celebrate New Year's Eve here, too, when she attended last night's La Perle performance. On a post on Instagram, which shows her dancing around the new Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai, she said: "This is saying goodbye to you 2018!!! Love you so much for everything you taught us!! ... time to dance ahead into the future!! Xoxo The Fernandez girls".

Cristiano Ronaldo

Just like us, the footballer was hanging out in the UAE last night enjoying the fireworks in Dubai. The Portuguese, 33, posted a snap on Instagram with his fiancée, Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, in front on the Burj Al Arab. Ronaldo will be attending the Globe Soccer Awards on Thursday.

Drew Barrymore

The American starlet danced in New Year's Eve, but not in a traditional sense. This year she headed out to 305 Fitness, a dance cardio workout with a live DJ and rhythmic light show that held a special end-of-year session. "Getting my New Year's Eve dance on because I am too old to go clubbing", she wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her dancing the night away.

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton

Over in Aspen, Colorado, at last week's star-studded Christmas Eve party friends Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton went sledding together, and the pair last night shared the photos on their Instagram accounts. Kim wrote: "Happy New Year from me and @parishilton". Paris added: "Slaying into 2019 with @KimKardashian", although her recent Instagram Story videos show her at Popski London fur store in England's capital dancing away to Katy Perry.

Kourtney Kardashian

Still in Aspen, Kim's sister Kourtney Kardashian posted some pics of her and her family frolicking in the snow as they rang in the New Year. Earlier in the day, she posted a photo of herself in snow boots and a bikini, writing: "Copied Kendall."

American model Kendall Jenner had indeed shared photos of herself in a bikini, sunglasses, snow boots and a hat, proclaiming that "it's cold", funnily enough.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

After getting married in a secret ceremony just last week, American singer Miley Cyrus and Australian actor Liam Hemsworth spent the last day of 2018 together with the Hemsworth family at a ski resort in Montana. Miley wrote: "I can try & act cool, but this is me FoReVeR #NewYearsFit #FindYouSomeoneWhoCanDoBoth".

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga's new Las Vegas residency kicked off on December 28, so she was busy performing at a special New Year's Eve show last night. Other superstar performances in the city last night included those by Celine Dion and Gwen Stefani, as fireworks lit up the sky at midnight.

The UK royal family

A video looking back over 2018 was shared on the British royal family's official Instagram account. It followed another one that looked at some of the most memorable moments of the year from the Queen's engagements. A pregnant Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are said to have stayed at Sandringham House, where they kept it low-key. Meanwhile, Kate Middleton and Prince William reportedly stayed at Kate's family home in Berkshire.

Rita Ora

Forget snow. It looks like the tropical nation of the Maldives was the place to be this year. British singer-songwriter Rita Ora spent her evening with Jaime Winstone and BBC Radio 1 DJ Nicholas Grimshaw. It seems she's not the only one to head to the idyllic archipelago. Rochelle and Marvin Humes, Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright, Sam Faiers and England manager Gareth Southgate all welcomed in 2019 there, too.
