Sometimes the big iftars can get a bit too much. Those long cues snaking their way through the buffets, not to mention the same variety (albeit high quality) of middle eastern inspired cuisine, can leave one hankering for something — actually anything — that‘s different.

Hakkasan Dubai offers that change of pace both in setting and menu. Located in Jumeirah Emirates Towers, the dimly lit popular Asian fusion restaurant has produced a special Ramadan only menu consisting of five courses that is full of flavour but gladly leaves you feeling not totally stuffed.

I began with a the slow braised chicken soup, it was thick and the chicken pieces cooked to tender perfection. This was followed by the chef’s selection of steamed dim sums, the best of which was the cuttlefish dumpling which packed an unexpected tang.

After a chilli mushroom wonton (a little to mild on the spice-factor), came the amazing stir-fry rib eye beef. Delicately drizzled with sesame sauce, it was a pure delight as the strips almost melted in my mouth.

The refreshing selection of homemade sorbet made for a fine conclusion of what is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable iftars I had yet.

Hakkasan Dubai is located Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Its Ramadan menu is dh188 per person and includes a welcome mocktails, teas and coffee. For details go to www.Hakkasan.Com
