Ramadan treats: lamb ouzi

Iftar at Nosh at Mövenpick Hotel in Dubai's Jumeirah Lakes Towers comprises five well-stocked sections: there are dates, dried fruits and dips accompanied by soups, breads and salads; there's a grill section that does a juicy shish taouk and shawarma. Appetisers come in the form of chicken liver in a delectable pomegranate sauce, cheese samosas and lamb kibbeh. Main courses includes biryani and chicken, fish and various vegetable options, while dessert includes a range of pastries, a chocolate fountain and a heavenly Umm Ali bread pudding.
But I went back for a third serving of one of the main courses: lamb ouzi. The perfectly marinated meat with a crisp outer layer and a delightfully soft centre, was accompanied by nutmeg- and cinnamon-flavoured rice with pine nuts and caramelised onion. Totally worth the iftar price of Dh99.
Nosh is at Mövenpick Hotel, cluster A, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai. Call 04 4298789 to make a reservation.
