PappaRoti Cafe is celebrating their 5th anniversary in the Dubai Mall in conjunction with Gourmet magazine on Thursday, September 18.
To celebrate their anniversary, the cafe is hosting The Pink Bake-Off to raise funds for breast cancer research. During the bake-off, 26 contestants will sell slices of their pre-baked cakes to the public for Dh10. A panel of judges will determine the finalists based on presentation, taste and the number of pieces sold. All of the proceeds will go to the Pink Caravan to fund breast cancer research.
The top two contestants will then compete in a live bake-off battle for the grand prize by creating three versions of the PappaRoti bun. The winner’s creation will be sold at select PappaRoti stores throughout the month of October (with all funds going to breast cancer research).
The winner will walk away with more than the title. Also at stake is Dh35,000 in prizes, including Dh25,000 worth of jewellery from F R Hueb Jewellery, a spa day for the winner and nine of her (or his) friends at the Saray Spa, a pink stand mixer from Tavola and professional cake decorating classes.
The Pink Bake-Off will be held at PappaRoti's Dubai Mall location on the second floor. The event is free of charge and open for the public to attend. It will be held on Thursday, September 18 from 5pm to 9pm. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/papparotiuae.
UK's plans to cut net migration
Under the UK government’s proposals, migrants will have to spend 10 years in the UK before being able to apply for citizenship.
Skilled worker visas will require a university degree, and there will be tighter restrictions on recruitment for jobs with skills shortages.
But what are described as "high-contributing" individuals such as doctors and nurses could be fast-tracked through the system.
Language requirements will be increased for all immigration routes to ensure a higher level of English.
Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.
The plans also call for stricter tests for colleges and universities offering places to foreign students and a reduction in the time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies from two years to 18 months.
