Lit cafe in Dubai
BookMunch in Al Wasl Square (opposite Safa Park) is being billed as Dubai’s first literary cafe. It sells a range of hand-picked books, including a selection of Arabic-language titles for children. The cafe serves soups, salads, sandwiches and larger main meals as well as offering a “Mad Hatters” table filled with freshly baked pastries. We’ve heard great things about the carrot and courgette cake.
New Marina pizza spot
Debonairs Pizza is a new restaurant in Dubai Marina Walk (MarinaScape building, next to Al Habtoor Tower) that serves whole-wheat pizzas, freshly baked and without oil. The South African brand is known for its innovative toppings that include a vegetable paneer tikka pizza and the pizza Filla, which has a secret recipe cream-cheese base. Call 04 442 4367.
PAUL in the capital
PAUL Bakery & Restaurant has opened its first Abu Dhabi store at Bawabat Al Sharq Mall, with another two stores scheduled to open in the capital over the next few months, at Al Wahda Mall (in April) and Etihad Towers. Dine up in the air
On March 22, Bord Eau at the Shangri-La, Qaryat Al Beri, will offer a special deal: guests who attend their Dining in the Sky event will be treated to a blind tasting menu before being hoisted 50 metres into the air on a suspended platform, where they’ll then enjoy dessert. Places for the lunch and dinner are limited and cost Dh1,220 per person. Call 02 509 8555.
