Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna will visit the new Indian restaurant Junoon in Dubai tonight, January 18. Khanna, host of Masterchef India and the culinary ambassador for Junoon, will have a meet and greet with diners tonight at 8pm.
Junoon is an Indian restaurant from New York City and it has just opened its first location abroad at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai. It’s a promising restaurant to keep on your radar: the NYC location has earned a Michelin star every year since it opened in 2010.
Junoon, which means “Passion” in Hindi, offers a menu that features food made with five of India’s most famous cooking traditions: tandoor (clay oven), tawa (cast iron cooking), sigri (open fire pit), handi (curry) and patthar (stone cooking).
The team of chefs at Junoon Dubai, led by executive chef Steven Hubbell, has devised a unique menu using locally sourced ingredients and flavours — including rose and dates — to satisfy the palates of Middle Eastern diners.
Among Junoon’s signature dishes are sordid sweetlip fish tadka (curry leaf tadka, grapefruit, crispy dulse and sea urchin); mutton rose biryani (mutton kofta with saffron, mint and rose); and chocolate date dessert (milk chocolate parfait, date cake, hibiscus purée, chilli glass and braised dates).
Junoon is located in the Shangri-La Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road. It's open for lunch Sunday through Thursday from noon to 3pm and until 3:30 on Friday and Saturday. Dinner is served from 6:30pm to midnight Saturday through Wednesday and until 12:30am on Thursday and Friday. For reservations, call 04 405 2716 or visit www.junoonrestaurants.com.
