Abu Dhabi Foodie News: a new homegrown cafe, new themed nights at Pepper restaurant and an Aussie day celebration
• Mikado Cafe, a new homegrown Japanese concept, has opened in Khalidiya. The cafe features a sushi bar, Japanese teas, homemade mochi ice creams, Japanese desserts, baked goods and more. The cafe, located near La Brioche, is open daily from 8am to 11pm (last order taken at 10:30pm). It will be closed January 1 for New Year’s Day. For more information, call 02 667 7557.
• The Novotel & Adagio Abu Dhabi Al Bustan hotel has two new themed nights in Pepper restaurant starting in the new year. Every Thursday will be Sea and Shell Night and will include an extensive seafood buffet starting at Dh150. On Tuesdays, try out the Pan Asian Night where guests can indulge in Japanese, Thai and Indo-Malay cuisine. There will also be a lok-lok live station serving fresh meat and fish skewers. Dh130+. • Le Royal Meridien will host a poolside Australia Day Brunch Barbecue on January 23 in honour of Aussie Day. Australian Ambassador Pablo Kang will attend the event. Traditional Aussie food will be on offer throughout the day including Galo’s pies and sausage rolls, lamingtons and much more. There will be swimming, traditional music with live bands and DJs, a kids’ corner, face painting and a bouncy castle. You’ll also have a chance to win a return flight to Australia on Etihad Airways. The event includes all you can eat barbecue and unlimited beverages from 1pm to 5pm. Dining options start at Dh120. Children ages six to 12 are Dh60. Those under six party for free.
