In case anyone needed further proof that regional designers are making waves on the global circuit, online powerhouse Net-a-Porter has just launched SemSem on its site.
Founded by Abeer Al Otaiba, this Egyptian brand has looked to a storied institution for inspiration, taking its cues from New York's Studio 54. The designs for this exclusive NAP collection, which debuts on October 31, include long line tunics over tone-on-tone cigarette trousers, and one-shouldered jumpsuits in shimmery plissé lurex, with a single, dramatically slashed sleeve. Carved on the bias for a sculpted top, the trousers, meanwhile, are left wide, loose and floor-sweepingly chic.
A palette of hot red, emerald green and zaffre blue, as well as familiar shades of old gold and the darkest, inky black make up this concise offering, but Otaiba has played to her strengths, with simple and delightfully unfussy lines.
SemSem has already worn by the likes of Chrissy Teigen, Emily Blunt, Katy Perry and Gigi Hadid, and this new tie-up with NAP will rightfully bring the brand to an even wider audience.
