American songwriter, musician and visual artist Kim Gordon has designed a limited-edition collection for fashion label & Other Stories.
The founding member of rock band Sonic Youth infuses her rock 'n' roll spirit with Los Angeles street influences in the collaboration. The timing is fitting, since it was just earlier this year that & Other Stories opened its Los Angeles workshop as an addition to its Paris and Stockholm ateliers.
Gordon was raised in Los Angeles, where she studied at the Otis College of Art & Design before embarking on her music career.
The collaboration with & Other Stories will appeal to consumers who favour baggy clothing and gothic elements over feminine silhouettes and peppy slogans. Messages such as "The End", "The Other", "Morning Mirror," "Her" and "They" are painted in grey on garments including sweatshirts, hoodies and T-shirts. The phrases also feature on silk scarves, and on gold and silver necklaces.
Dubai-based fashion blogger Kat Lebrasse got her hands on one of the sweatshirts a week ahead of the collection's launch.
Gordon's daughter, Coco Gordon Moore, was the musician's muse for the collection. See the duo shoot the collection in this behind-the-scenes video.
While they may not be as mainstream as Christian Dior's feminism T-shirts, these street pieces carry messages of their own and will speak to customers seeking low-key, punk-inspired attire for their autumn/winter wardrobes.
