Karan Johar to launch jewellery brand in Dubai

The prolific Indian filmmaker will showcase jewels from his Tyaani label at Numaish in September

There’s very little that Karan Johar can’t and won’t do within the creative arena. In addition to his filmography – he’s an actor, director, producer and writer – Johar is also a published author, has modelled for many of his designer friends and has even turned to costume design on occasion.

Last year, Johar launched Tyaani in collaboration with Satyani, one of India’s most famous jewellery houses. The label is known for its polki, or uncut diamond, pieces. Traditionally, polki jewellery designs have been ornate, translating into heavy earrings, chunky bracelets and full-bodied necklaces that could only really be worn during lavish occasions, such as weddings.

However, Tyaani aims to disrupt the conventional polki market by placing these stunning stones in lighter, more contemporary settings, so that they can worn as everyday pieces, and be brought “out of wedding trunks and into brunches”. The jewels have been worn by many Bollwood celebrities, including Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Singha and Kajol.

Tyaani jewels will be displayed in Dubai at the Numaish fair on September 28 and 29 in Emirates Towers. Johar also plans to launch a Tyaani store in Dubai next year, following branches in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. The collection is divided into Tyaani Minimal (starting from Dh850) and Tyaani (starting from Dh2,000).
