Mention Cannes in the South of France and most people will immediately think of the town's annual film festival featuring Hollywood's elite. But September marks the annual arrival of the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes - otherwise known as the Cannes International Boat Show - an equally glitzy and glamorous event as its May counterpart. The event, now in its 36th year, runs from tomorrow to Sunday and benefits from being the first international show on the yachting calendar as well as arguably the most prestigious. More than 460 boats built by leading luxury shipyards will be on display at the show, spread over the Vieux Port and the Port Pierre Canto.
Where to stay: The Majestic is a five-star hotel on the Croisette, the renowned waterfront promenade, opposite the convention centre and within walking distance of the boat show. The property has its own private beach, outdoor pool and five clay tennis courts. Prices start at ?434.30 (Dh2,107) per night.
Eating out: Sample the exquisite pastries dreamed up by the world pastry champion Jérôme De Oliveira. Salon de Gourmandises Intuitions is located in the lobby of the Five Seas Hotel at 22 rue Bivouac Napoléon. During the boat show, a temporary outlet is set up on a pretty terrace at the roundabout of the jetties Albert Edouard North and South. Ice-creams are also on offer. along with a selection of light savoury snacks for lunchtime.
Off hours: Try playing petanque - you may know it as boules - a popular game in France. In Cannes, the pastime is played near the old port and in the Place de l'Étang, Palm Beach. If you don't manage to pack your own set of boules in your luggage, you can buy everything you need at Petanque Star at 12 rue Louis-Blanc. It's also worth taking in the charm of the old district by strolling around Le Suquet and there are boutiques galore catering to every budget.

UAE insurance firm Al Wathba National Insurance Company (AWNIC) last year launched an e-commerce website with a facility enabling users to buy car wrecks.
Bidders and potential buyers register on the online salvage car auction portal to view vehicles, review condition reports, or arrange physical surveys, and then start bidding for motors they plan to restore or harvest for parts.
