Jennifer Aniston, the actress best known for her role in the US television sitcom Friends, has lost more than half a million dollars on not one but two apartments in less than six months.
The actress bought a penthouse and a 17th-floor apartment in the same building in Manhattan for a little more than US$7 million in November (Dh25.71m). She then sold them both this year for $6.5m.
According to news reports, Aniston had planned to connect the penthouse to the apartment below to make a duplex for her and her partner, Justin Theroux. But the couple decided to live in Los Angeles instead.
Aniston told an Australian radio show that the couple tried living in New York but "it was a little rough with the paparazzi".
The penthouse has a 900-square-foot terrace on three sides and views of Manhattan's skyline stretching from the New York Harbour to the Empire State Building, according to Zillow Blog, a property site. The listing broker, Bruce Ehrmann, told the New York Post that the penthouse was "one of the most beautiful terraces in the city, with unobstructed forever views".
Oddly enough, the newspaper pointed out, Aniston bought the two apartments in Manhattan through a corporation under the name of her dog - Norman.
Half a million dollars may seem like a heavy loss, although Aniston's other property investments more than make up for the shortfall. Last summer, she sold a home in Beverly Hills she bought after her break-up with Brad Pitt for $36m last summer, after buying it for $13.5m in 2006. Still, she spent more than two years renovating it to add more space and make it energy-efficient.
Aniston and Theroux currently live in a $21m, 8,500-sq-ft, four-bedroom house in Bel Air.
It includes a vineyard and views of the Pacific Ocean, and was purchased for about $3m less than its listing price, according to news reports.
