The National Pavilion United Arab Emirates la Biennale di Venezia has officially opened at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Italy.
As a venue to display and support the UAE’s contemporary art and architechture projects on an international stage. It is participating at the exhibition for a second time.
The pavilion aims to promote a cultural dialogue between the UAE and the international community, with this year’s showing including work from Yasser Elsheshtawy, associate professor of architecture at UAE University.
Mr Elsheshtawy is presenting his exhibition titled Transformations: The Emirati National House, exploring the transformative aspect of the housing model of Emirati national homes, known as ‘Sha’abi’, or folk houses.
By participating in the exhibition, distinctive elements of the country’s history will be put in the spotlight, focusing on the cultural, architectural and social evolution of housing in the UAE.

The UAE’s participation at la Biennale di Venezia commenced in 2009 with a national pavilion at the 53rd International Art Exhibition, and has continued in subsequent editions of the art exhibition. The art exhibition will run from May 28 to until November 27, 2016.
