More than 1.3 million people visited Abu Dhabi Corniche and Al Bateen beaches during the first four months of the year.

The majority – more than 1.2 million – visited the Corniche beach while just over 186,000 people visited Al Bateen beach.

Khalf Al Nakkas, head of the beaches section, community services division for Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said more than 366,000 people visited the Corniche during January, compared with 329,000 in February, 280,000 in March and 229,000 in April.

More than 17,000 people visited Al Bateen in January compared with 55,000 in February, 44,000 in March, and 70,000 in April. This brought the total number of visitors to both beaches to 1,392,795 during the first quarter of the year.

Mr Al Nakkas said that the beaches have become favourite destinations for residents because both have obtained Blue Flag status.

He added that the municipality has installed an e-counter system to monitor visitor numbers at the Corniche beach.

“The system helps classify the rates of beachgoers, assess the numbers of visitors during specific times and displays the actual number of visitors for investors who can avail accurate statistics that contribute to encouraging and boosting investments in facilities,” he said.
