Platinum One by Qantas Frequent Flyer

Benefits: Members receive complimentary exit row seating and invitations to "money can't buy" experiences including private concerts, personal chef dinners and Qantas flight simulator sessions. Other perks include platinum membership for a spouse, telephone booking fee waivers and complimentary Qantas Golf Club Premium membership

Watch out for: To qualify, flyers must have 3,600 status credits, which are different to Qantas Points.

Emirates Skywards Platinum

Benefits: Members receive first-class check-in and priority baggage delivery, access to first-class lounges in Dubai and around the world with their guests, 75 per cent bonus miles when they fly with Emirates and a guaranteed seat even on fully booked flights. There is also the option to nominate a spouse, business associate or friend for gold membership.

Watch out for: To qualify for platinum status, frequent flyers must have 150,000 tier miles or more.

Etihad Guest Gold Elite

Benefits: Members earn a tier miles bonus of 75 per cent Guest Miles over the base miles. They also receive wait list priority on busy routes, an excess baggage allowance of 20 kilograms, first-class check-in and priority boarding, a guaranteed business seat if booked 48 hours in advance (even if the flight is fully booked) and access to the first-class lounges in Abu Dhabi and around the world.

Watch out for: To qualify, you must earn 125,000 tier miles or travel 60 Tier Segments in any 12 months.
