Rotana Jet has become the latest UAE business aviation firm with a Gulfstream G450 jet based at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi.

Horm Irani, the chief executive of Rotana Jet, said the company received its aviation licence last month and had already operated private jet charters to Africa, Europe and the Far East for wealthy individuals, government officials and corporate clients.

"A lot of the growth potential has not been reached yet," Mr Irani said. "In addition, we saw a few operators that had already gone out of business, and some were faltering due to poor business models, so we saw an opportunity to jump in."

Rotana Jet has no connections with the Rotana regional chain of hotels.

Business aviation is a growing field with new companies operating out of Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports. To charter the aircraft for a return flight to Europe costs about US$90,000 (Dh330,565), Rotana Jet said.

The firm was launched with just Dh300,000. The Gulfstream G450 is its first aircraft under management but Mr Irani would not disclose the name of the owner.

"We would like to add four to five aircraft a year under management," he added.

"That is how many we could practically add without straining resources."
