A consortium led by Orascom Construction has won a €590 million (Dh2.5 billion) contract to build another phase of the Cairo Metro extension.
The company’s joint venture with its fellow Egyptian construction company Arab Contractors will build phase 4B of the metro, which requires the construction of a 6.1km elevated stretch of track along a viaduct, with five elevated stations.
Orascom said that its portion of the deal was worth €295m.
The contract is the third Cairo Metro deal secured by the Nasdaq Dubai-listed company in recent months.
In November, the company said that its consortium with Arab Contractors, Colas Rail and Alstom secured a €375m deal to build phase three of the third line of Cairo Metro, with its portion for civil works valued at €105m.
This followed an earlier award in February last year, when the same consortium members picked up a contract to build another 5.7km section of the metro.
