More than Dh3.42 billion in deals were struck on the fourth day of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Idex) in Abu Dhabi.
Of the 20 deals announced on Wednesday, 13 were with UAE companies.
The largest single order went to the US defence major Raytheon, which bagged a Dh1.3bn ammunition contract for the UAE Air Force and UAE Air Defence Force. It brings the cumulative tally of contracts agreed so far to more than Dh18.8bn moving into Thursday, the final day of the sold-out event.
The biennial defence exhibition hosted in the capital attracts the world’s biggest arms companies and showcases the latest military equipment from around the globe.
Among other major deals disclosed on the fourth day of the show were contracts to Thales Communications and Security, AgustaWestland and Dassault Aviation. Raytheon, the maker of the Patriot missile system, expects to increase its international sales "year over year", John Harris, the chief executive of Raytheon International told The National this week.
Raytheon’s international business is evenly split between the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
A full list of deals announced on day four of Idex 2017:
• A Dh46.9 million contract with the UAE-based company International Golden Group (IGG) to develop infrastructure for IT projects.
• A contract worth Dh6.83m with the German company Rheinmetall Air Defence to offer the UAE Air Force with technical support.
• A contract worth Dh27m with UAE-based company E-Marine to extend naval cables.
• A contract valued at Dh409.24m with the UAE-based company Caracal International to purchase small arms.
• A contract with Condor Medical Waste Treatment Company, a UAE-based company, for Dh2.39m to provide technical and medical support for the transport and processing of medical waste.
• A Dh20m contract with UAE-based Ahmed Almazroei Metal Industries to produce and install storage for weapons and maintenance of moving targets at shooting ranges and equipment.
• A contract valued at Dh20m with UAE-based Al Futtaim Motors to provide technical support.
• A Dh60m contract with UAE-based Royal Jet to provide private air transport for VIPs.
• A contract with the French company Thales Communications & Security worth Dh26.69m to provide spare parts for telecommunication systems.
• A Dh51m contract with French company Dassault Aviation to provide technical support for aircraft of the UAE Air Force and UAE Air Defence Force.
• A contract with the French company Thales Communications & Security valued at Dh38.65m to purchase and install air communication system stations.
• A contract with the Italian company AgustaWestland Aviation Services for Dh8.98m to modernise the interior cabin of VIP aircraft.
• A contract valued at Dh1.29bn with the American company Raytheon to buy ammunitions for the UAE Air Force and UAE Air Defence Force.
• A contract valued at Dh30m with UAE-based Emirates Motor Company for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
• A contract worth Dh36.36m with UAE-based Burkan Munitions Systems to purchase ammunitions for the UAE Air Force and UAE Air Defence Force.
• A Dh59.11m contract with UAE-based Emirates Defence Technology (EDT) to buy ammunition for land forces.
• A contract with UAE-based Trust for Dh300m to supply machinery.
• A contract valued at Dh745.23m with UAE-based Star Satellite Communications Company to buy satellite communications terminals.
• A contract with the American company Satellite Imaging Technologies valued at Dh96.96m to rent imaging satellites.
• A contract with UAE-based Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments valued at Dh140.31m to supply thermal imaging cameras and ground control stations.
Over the past four days, during Idex and Navdex 2017, the UAE Armed Forces penned a cumulative of 82 deals worth more than Dh18.83 billion. The past three days are split as follows:
• Day one brought 21 deals worth more than Dh4.41bn.
• Day two brought 10 deals worth more than Dh6.91bn.
• Day three brought 31 deals worth more than Dh4.07bn.
• Day four brought 13 deals worth more than Dh3.42bn
