Etihad Airways has increased business class capacity on its Abu Dhabi-Amman route by 75 per cent.
It has started operating a two-class Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner between the two capitals, with 28 seats in business and 271 in economy.
Passengers travelling in business will have flat-bed seats and 20 per cent more personal space on the Dreamliner for a maximum scheduled flying time of 3 hours 24 minutes.
“The decision to upgrade to the Boeing 787 reflects the importance of the Jordanian market to Etihad Airways, and the sustained development of economic relations between the two countries,” said Peter Baumgartner, the airline’s chief executive.
Jordan is hosting an Arab League summit this week in Amman and in May the regional edition of the World Economic Forum will also be held in the kingdom, at the Dead Sea.
Etihad will put on a second daily flight to Amman, operating an Airbus A320, between 26 June and 30 September “to cater to expected high traffic demand on the route during peak season”, it said.
According to the International Air Transport Association, Middle East carriers grew at the world’s fastest rate in January in terms of international passenger traffic. It was the third month in a row that the region was top, arresting a previous downward trend in demand that dominated 2016.
