Emirates yesterday announced a new codeshare agreement with Thailand-based Bangkok Airways that will open up routes across a number of South East Asian cities.
The agreement adds to the Emirates network a further 14 destinations such as Koh Samui and Chiang Mai in Thailand, Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Yangon in Myanmar.
Emirates recently announced that it is increasing its capacity to Bangkok with a fourth daily A380 service out of the six currently available. The new two-class service, starting December 1, will add 3,570 seats per week to and from the Thai capital.
“The agreement offers increased choice, flexibility and ease of connection to different cities across South East Asia to and from Dubai,” said Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
The sharing of flight codes is becoming common at the Dubai-based airline.
Emirates currently has code-share agreements in place with 15 partners around the world.
It has codeshares in the UK with the operator flybe from five destinations. It services a variety of US destinations with JetBlue and codeshare flights are available on Jetstar Airways on seven domestic Australian routes, five domestic New Zealand routes, five Trans-Tasman routes and between Singapore and Bali.
Emirates also services 10 destinations in Asia between Singapore and Darwin, Australia via Jetstar Airways.
“This new codeshare agreement with Emirates … allows us to give our customers around the region convenient, seamless access to Dubai and onwards,” said Peter Wiesner, senior vice president for Bangkok Airways.
