Dubai plans to accelerate implementation of its 2030 industrial strategy starting next year as it intensifies efforts to boost the contribution of the sector to the economy and continue diversifying its income.

The emirate unveiled in June its target to add Dh160 billion to its GDP and to create 27,000 specialised jobs by developing six industrial sectors: aerospace, maritime, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, aluminium and fabricated metals, food and beverages and machinery and equipment.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the emirate’s Crown Prince and chairman of the Executive Council, gave directives yesterday to accelerate the implementation of the industrial plan.

“Strengthening creativity and innovation in various industrial areas is one of the key elements of the Dubai Industrial Strategy, which is in line with our quest to consolidate the foundations of a sustainable dynamic economy based on research, knowledge and development,” said Sheikh Hamdan.

Abdullah Al Shaibani, the secretary general of the Executive Council, said the implementation of the strategy started in September, with the formation of six specialised work teams for each of the sub-sectors, which will need to collaborate. “The teams will also launch a number of initiatives to drive the growth of the industrial sector in the next few months,” he said.
