Dubai's BurJuman shopping centre is to undergo a major renovation, expanding its retail and entertainment mix in a bid to increase business.

Once the pre-eminent luxury mall in Dubai before Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates were built, BurJuman offers premium brands including Saks Fifth Avenue, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
The mall now aims to encourage more people to its stores by offering more attractions.
It will be increased 25 per cent in size to 1 million square feet, with the addition of a cinema complex, an anchor grocery store and the expansion of the food court. An alfresco dining area will also be built on the north side of the shopping centre.
"Visitors not only look at malls as places to shop but as a complete entertainment destination," said Majid al Ghurair, the president of the BurJuman mall.
"We have planned for some time now to add to our family entertainment offering, and the extension of the play area and addition of a multiplex cinema will be a major step in this direction."
Mall operators are increasingly trying to use their entertainment offering to entice visitors, particularly in the hot and humid months when many people avoid the outdoors.
New luxury and high fashion brands are expected at the mall, including regional debuts for certain brands.
The renovation is expected to be completed in phases over the next 18 to 24 months, with building to begin by the end of the year.
The food court will double in size and link directly to the Pavilion Gardens in the mall's south wing.
