Al Ittihad develops app for Apple Watch

Al Ittihad has become the first newspaper in the Middle East to launch an application for the Apple Watch, joining international media outlets including CNN and Reuters.

"With the constant development and expansion of our readership base and the content that they want to get, Al Ittihad never stops updating its services and coming up with the best technology in this field," said Mohamed Ebraheem Al Mahmood, the chairman and managing director of Abu Dhabi Media, which owns both Al Ittihad and The National. "This is especially the case in light of the growing importance of the internet and social media and its influence in spreading news."

Readers of Al Ittihad on the Apple Watch and iPhone will be able to get news as soon as it happens as well as set the application to topics of interest such as sports, politics, economics, culture and the arts.

Al Ittihad is the Arabic language sister publication of The National.

Al Ittihad's Apple Watch application will be launched at the Arab Media Forum in Dubai on Tuesday.

Apple has given no indication as to when its latest device will become available officially in the UAE, but the Apple Watch was available for sale through grey market channels just days after its international launch on April 24.
