A luxury ride if you can stretch to it

Sometimes a Toyota Yaris just does not cut it.

After all, it can be quite a challenge to accommodate a 42-inch plasma TV, disco lights and 20 people in the back of a Yaris.

But arriving at a meeting or an event in a stretch limo is definitely one way to make an impression. There are a few companies in the UAE that hire out chauffeur-driven limos that range from classy, sleek executive Mercedes that can ferry a few people around, to what are effectively nightclubs on wheels, to larger vehicles that can comfortably seat a football team.

Dubai Exotic Limo specialises in the latter.

The company offers a range of cars to hire for occasions including corporate events, weddings, airport transfers or even a shopping spree when you simply need that extra space for all those purchases.

Its vehicles include a giant Hummer - a monster of a car that can accommodate 20 passengers. Inside, it is equipped with a surround sound system, leather interior, a television and, of course, DVD player. It also boasts a fully-stocked refreshments bar. The ride costs Dh600 an hour (US$163) and can be hired for the day - for 10 hours at Dh4,500.

Dubai Exotic Limo also pitches a Cadillac Escalade, which has the same capacity as the Hummer, but is priced at Dh700 an hour and Dh5,000 for the day.

Slightly more discreet is the Dodge Charger, which is cheaper (Dh500 an hour) and holds up to 10 people.

The company also offers a bright pink limo. Weekly rates for its cars range between Dh15,000 and Dh25,000.

"We started with two cars and now we have 20 limos," says Izzat Rustom, the managing director of Dubai Exotic Limo.

He says the luxurious rides are particularly popular when people are "stuck with the parking and the traffic, like … big concerts [and] Formula One."

Who are the Soroptimists?

The first Soroptimists club was founded in Oakland, California in 1921. The name comes from the Latin word soror which means sister, combined with optima, meaning the best.

The organisation said its name is best interpreted as ‘the best for women’.

Since then the group has grown exponentially around the world and is officially affiliated with the United Nations. The organisation also counts Queen Mathilde of Belgium among its ranks.
