Brandon Maxwell might be considered an overachiever.
He set up his eponymous fashion label one year ago, and has already won the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) Swarovski Award; counts Naomi Campbell and Michelle Obama as loyal customers, and had one of his creations worn by a heavily pregnant Kerry Washington at the recent Emmy Awards (which nearly broke the internet).
And as if this all wasn’t impressive enough, he’s also Lady Gaga’s stylist.
Maxwell is not, however, just a socialite designer who churns out looks for his famous friends. His work, now exclusively available at Harvey Nichols Dubai, is altogether more sophisticated than that. The designer has a keen eye for finding that narrow line between elegant and sassy, and chic and frivolous. His skills lie in designing dresses that are understated yet feel like they have stepped out of New York’s iconic 1970s club, Studio 54. His pieces are as fun as they are stylish, and echo a bygone era of pure glamour.
Maxwell clearly has an address book to die for, but he also understands that women want to feel great when they dress up.
