Virgin Radio breakfast host Kris Fade is turning into the UAE’s very own Dr Phil.
Fresh from consoling the Dubai businessman Neil after publicly breaking up with his girlfriend live on his Kris Fade Show a few days before Valentine's Day, he once again came to the rescue of another listener who shared her woes on air.
This time around it was Mona who called (you can listen to the call in a video below) around 7am on March 26 to tearfully express her dissatisfaction with her life at present; the chief causes being her inability to land a job and find a circle of friends.
“I am 30 and I feel like I am not living the life I wanted, I feel like its wasted,” she said.
“I had three interviews and it was all rejected. I thought ‘God, am I really that bad?”
A few minutes later the radio show was flooded with online messages and phone calls in support of Mona and Fade invited her to the studio.
By 8.30am Mona was in the studio and received a swag of presents including a free holiday to Istanbul, a main-pedi, spa treatment, helicopter ride, a lunch for four people and a three month gym membership.
“It was really a wonderful moment for her,” Fade said.
“I think what she did was remind us all that we all go through our own challenges and internal battles and it just feels good to extend a hand and help someone out.”
Fade said the experience also underscores the power of radio in the UAE: “We spend a lot of time on the roads here and with radio it just hits you and it’s an instant connection.”
Despite Fade’s continuing success with helping turning people’s lives around on air, he has no plans to host a Dr Phil style radio or television show just yet.
“I would love to but maybe in a few years,” he said.
