- The glasses are handcrafted using the micro-mosaic technique, an ancient Roman glass-blowing and arrangement art that involves spinning mosaic tiles made from Murano glass, resulting in sliver-thin micro tiles. These are then laid out, one at a time, by skilled craftsmen in Murano, Italy.
- This pair - DG2631, of which only three are being sold in the UAE (at Optic Fashion in The Dubai Mall) - boasts 1,000 micro tiles that embellish the front and temples of its gold metal frame.
- The Mosaico sunglasses follow a floral theme, a favourite motif of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Over 30 filato designs were developed through the micro-mosaic technique, recreating the leaves, pistils and petals of various flowers. This pair features an intricate showcase of red pansies, sun-kissed plumeria, pink gerberas and lilac forget-me-nots.
- D&G's Mosaico collection represents the first time ever that the micro-mosaic technique has been applied to eyewear, with just 70 pairs available around the world.
- Every piece is truly unique because the application of the floral pattern - using tiles measuring only a few millimetres - is different each time. It takes an artisan four days to make one pair.
- As well as the limited-edition Full Mosaico, available in Havana, red and black frames with polarised lenses, the collection includes two other types of sunglasses and two prescription designs, the temples embellished with fewer but equally striking micro-mosaic inserts.
