Your wait before boarding a plane from the Sharjah International Airport needn’t be a drag anymore. The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development has opened a reading corner for travellers.
The move to set up libraries in UAE airports is part of the government’s initiative to promote the culture of reading among UAE residents. This initiative is also a part of UAE’s Year of Reading initiative.
The book corner in the main building of the Sharjah airport will be accessible to the 10 million passengers and ground staff at the airport every year.
The reading corner is stocked with books in different languages and for all ages. The books and publications cover a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, and topics ranging from travel to science.
Last week, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai announced the Reading National Campaign on Twitter that will provide 5 million books for refugee students and students in need all over the world. The campaign will also establish 2,000 libraries in poor communities.
