Channelling the spirit of The French Connection and every self-styled "gritty cop drama" since then (most especially last year's vastly superior We Own The Night), the wildly derivative Pride and Glory has got guts to spare, but little intrigue and even less ingenuity. Here it's good-cop bad-cop time yet again, as Irish-American brothers-in-law Ray Tierney (Norton) and Jimmy Egan (Farrell) are pitted against each other in a battle for both the soul and the reputation of the New York Police Department. Ray is the smart patrician brother with an innate gift for police work. While Jimmy is the hair-trigger hothead with a brutal investigative modus operandi. Naturally, we learn that Jimmy is receiving back-handers from a fearsome criminal kingpin, Angel Tezo (Roman Rodriguez), that four cops have been killed by Tezo, and Jimmy is to blame. It's difficult to shake the notion that we've seen this all done before, and better.
