Need a quick burst of local monologues and enthusiasm? Pecha Kucha has been going for three years now in Dubai, and gives participants six minutes and 40 seconds to expound on anything they feel like, with 20 slides as accompaniment. Here are three of our highlights from the event on December 17.
Ahmed Abou Chabaan
Heads up Palestyle, creating clothes hand-embroidered with traditional designs found across Palestine. All of this stitchwork is done by women in refugee camps across Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine - who take away a significant percentage of all sales.
Miranda McKee
Miranda speaks on behalf of the photographer Karen Dias of Gulf Photo Plus, who instigated a project to provide cameras to 21 labourers living in Sharjah.
Sara Naim
Talented photographer returns to Dubai after a protracted stint in New York and photo journeys across the US and England. Here to talk about her excellent work, love her still lifes.
Carnival theme for this edition, meaning there's candy floss and popcorn on tap, and a line-up of DJs from 7.30pm. Presentations start at 8.20pm, held at The Pavilion, Downtown Dubai on December 17.
