Our top international art events this week: NY street artist Jean-Michel Basquiat revisited and more

Art inspired by the legacy of the Vietnam War

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. It's the trauma of these years that provides much inspiration for Dinh Q Le, who emigrated from Vietnam to the United States at the age of 10. Included in the exhibition at Tokyo's Mori Art Museum is a video installation – the artwork that made him famous. The 2006 work examines the complex relationship the Vietnamese have with the war by focusing on one man who attempts to build his own helicopter. This is also the museum's first large-scale show dedicated solely to a South East Asian artist. Dinh Q Le: Memory for Tomorrow runs at the Mori Art Museum until October 12. Four artists and the European avant-garde

The interaction between four artists from the 19th and 20th centuries and several social dissidents are examined in this exhibition in the Czech Republic. Egon Schiele, František Kupka, Friedensreich Hundertwasser and Joseph Beuys would go on to have much success in the art world. But dissidents such as Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach, a painter who rejected institutions such as marriage, have faded from view despite being widely admired in avant-garde circles at the time. From New York graffiti artist to global fame

The son of a Puerto Rican mother and Haitian-American father, Jean-Michel Basquiat started out as a precocious New York graffiti artist, but was soon using canvas to unleash colourful critiques of social inequality, racism and colonialism. He died from a drug overdose at the age of 27 and his critical legacy has been mixed. About 100 of his paintings, along with drawings and photographs, are now on display in Bilbao and it represents the largest exhibition on the American artist ever held in Spain.
