Tragic news, funk fans – legendary local DJ Schooly is leaving the UAE.
It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Schooly – the tastemaker behind the groove-tastic Soulful Session he hosted both on the airwaves and behind the decks – is quitting the region for good.
After eight years of making the UAE dance to funky and soulful house, disco and rare retro nuggets, Schooly is heading back to the UK.
But, of course, he ain’t going without a bang. There’s a leaving party planned – and you’re all invited.
Schooly said: “What can only be described as the best adventure ever – after eight years, thousands of radio hours, tons of amazing friends, countless parties and two amazing kids – it’s time for me to return to the UK to pursue a new chapter in teaching. Who’d have thought?
“But it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t have one last party right before I leave, right?
“It’s not goodbye, its just farewell for now.”
Stop by The Dek on 8, at Dubai’s Media One Hotel, on Thursday April 23 for the official DJ Schooly Farewell Party, courtesy of those fine folk over at Infusion. Free entry for all.

A day later the same venue – and same promoters, Infusion – gear up to celebrate South Africa Freedom Day.
April 27 marks 21 years since the first free elections were held in the country, bringing Nelson Mandela to power and changing the political landscape forever.
Friday April 24 will see a special celebratory edition of The Dek on 8’s weekly club night House of Afrika, with guest DJ Kent flying over to spin for the occasion.
There will also be specials on South African food and drink, plus tunes from locally based expats Charl Chaka, Just Lance and Che.
Free entry from 6pm.
