Kanye West’s new album is about ‘giving’

Kanye West says his new album is all about giving. The multiplatinum rapper held a listening for Yeezus on Monday in New York, where Beyoncé was one of the few hundred attendees. West said that his sixth effort will showcase his growth over the last two years and that he had to "learn about giving – this whole process is all about giving". West, who turned 36 on Saturday, added: "I feel like I know who I am." Yeezus will be out on June 18 and features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and the rapper Chief Keef. – AP

Helen Mirren downplays Dr Who buzz

Helen Mirren has been suggested as the next star of Doctor Who, the beloved BBC sci-fi series about a space-hopping, time-travelling alien hero. Eleven actors have played the role since the show began in 1963, and a 12th is to be announced soon. This has sparked intense speculation among the show's millions of fans, with some wondering whether the role might go to a woman for the first time. One bookmaker is offering 25-1 odds on it being Mirren. "Oh, please – I would put much longer odds on it than that," the 67-year-old Mirren told reporters. "But I think it's absolutely time for a female Doctor Who. I'm so sick of that man with his girl sidekick. I could name at least 10 wonderful British actresses who would absolutely kill in that role." – AP

Swedish producer takes on American Idol

The Swedish producer Per Blankens will be taking the lead on a revamped season of American Idol after the long-time British producer Nigel Lythgoe said he was fired from the show because of falling ratings. Blankens was the executive producer of Idol, Sweden's version of the singing competition. He will oversee the 13th season of American Idol, because of premiere in January 2014. Lythgoe tweeted over the weekend: "Just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain every day. I get back to the States and get fired. Sad!" – Reuters

Another way to earn air miles

In addition to the Emirates and Etihad programmes, there is the Air Miles Middle East card, which offers members the ability to choose any airline, has no black-out dates and no restrictions on seat availability. Air Miles is linked up to HSBC credit cards and can also be earned through retail partners such as Spinneys, Sharaf DG and The Toy Store.

An Emirates Dubai-London round-trip ticket costs 180,000 miles on the Air Miles website. But customers earn these ‘miles’ at a much faster rate than airline miles. Adidas offers two air miles per Dh1 spent. Air Miles has partnerships with websites as well, so booking.com and agoda.com offer three miles per Dh1 spent.

“If you use your HSBC credit card when shopping at our partners, you are able to earn Air Miles twice which will mean you can get that flight reward faster and for less spend,” says Paul Lacey, the managing director for Europe, Middle East and India for Aimia, which owns and operates Air Miles Middle East.
