When heading off on a holiday, there are a few essential chores that should be done before you leave.
Televisions, laptops, microwaves and all other electronics should be unplugged. Electronic equipment draws power even when not in use. And for safety reasons pull the plugs, in case there’s a power surge.
Although you’ll be away, the house still needs to remain cool. If heat builds up, it can affect wooden furniture, cabinets and flooring. Excessive heat can cause wood to expand stopping doors from closing. Keep the air-conditioning on at 25° Celsius to 26° C to save energy, but keep the air flowing. Summer is also the time when creepy crawlies come out of their hiding spots to avoid the heat on the ground. Plug drains in sinks, showers and bathtubs.
Clean your home properly before leaving. This includes clearing rubbish from the bins, washing the dishes and laundry, and putting everything away. Nothing feels better than coming back to a clean and tidy home after a long holiday.
