With summer approaching, it’s a good time to start thinking about indoor activities that’ll keep your children busy during the holidays.
DIY stamps are an old favourite. For this nifty project, you will need a pencil, pen, a pack of medium- or large-sized erasers (any shape), a hobby knife, some paper and a stamp pad.
Have your children sketch out a design of their choice that can be transferred onto the stamp. Start by tracing the outline of the eraser onto a piece of paper, then get them to draw their design, within this perimeter, in pencil.
Go over the design several times so that it becomes dark enough. Flip the piece of paper over, and with the eraser under the paper, trace over the design with pen – the ink and pencil should transfer onto the eraser. Depending on how your children want the stamps to look on paper, use the knife to carve out either the design itself or the space around the design (an adult should do this). You’re now ready to stamp away.
If the design isn’t clear enough, cut away more of the eraser for a bolder outline.
