With the school year coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about simple projects that will help keep children entertained on long days spent indoors.
Bubble snakes are a fun, safe way to keep younger children busy, and you will only need products that you should already have around the house.
Grab an old sock, liquid soap, one plastic bottle per person and some food colouring. Begin by cutting off the bottom of the bottle – this should be done by an adult. Next, take the sock and slip it over the cut end of the bottle. If the sock has lost its elasticity, you can secure it with a rubber band or hair tie.
Place the soap into a bowl and mix with water. Dip the sock end into the solution and blow through the mouth of the bottle to create your bubble snake – this step might be best done outdoors to avoid staining furniture or floors.
For a colourful bubble snake, stripe the sock end with food colouring and dip it back into the solution.
Remind younger children to blow the bubbles outward – rather than have them accidentally inhaling the solution.
