Directors: Dax Shepherd, David Palmer
Starring: Kristen Bell, Dax Shepherd, Tom Arnold, Kristin Chenoweth, Bradley Cooper
***
The real-life couple Dax Shepherd and Kristen Bell produce and star in this road-trip oddity aimed at car enthusiasts, with tinges of old-school romance in tow.
Shepherd, who co-wrote and directed, stars as Charles Bronson, a former getaway driver who is in witness protection for ratting on a robbery gone awry.
Bell plays Annie, his vaguely ambitious girlfriend, who's offered a job in LA. As they hit the road in his father's favourite roadster, Bronson's federal marshal, Randy (a funny Tom Arnold), gives chase, as does Annie's manic ex-husband (Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum). Adding to the chaos is a gang of ex-cons, led by Alex (Bradley Cooper on top form).
Lurching from picket-fence sweetness to screwball comedy, it's a hit-and-miss affair that's largely forgettable - beyond its pairing of Shepherd and Bell.
