Feast of Indian music coming to Dubai

Award-winning singer A R Rahman and musical maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will top the bill during a weekend of Indian music at Dubai World Trade Center next month.

The first Dubai Sufi Weekend on December 18 and 19 will feature new shows from three of the most renowned artists from the South Asian music industry.

They include the internationally renowned Rahman, a composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist whose work integrates Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music genres and traditional orchestral arrangements. He has won two Oscars, two Grammy Awards, a Bafta and a Golden Globe, among many other awards.

His Dubai show, on day one of the event, will feature him performing with his Sufi choir for the first time.

Day two will feature the voice behind some of the most popular Hindi film songs & Ghazals of all-time, as Bollywood playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan performs with Fateh Ali Khan for the first time.

The event has been organised by Purple Vogue Events and Emirates Neon Group.

“We are thrilled to be bringing together a once in a lifetime line up to Dubai for the Sufi Weekend in December,” says Samir Ahmed, PVE’s managing director. “A R Rahman’s Sufi choir, a world premiere show promises to be a captivating Day 1 on December 18, and the following day with Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Sunidhi Chauhan performing together for the very first time. We are presenting the UAE a truly unique opportunity to see these fantastic artists.”

Rehan Merchant, ENG’s chief executive adds: “The chance to see three top artists over two days on one show is a combination that will be a real highlight of Dubai’s concert season.”
