English rock band New Order will be making their debut in the Middle East with a performance at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium on April 7.

The band with members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Gillian Gilbert, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman will stopover in Dubai first before taking their New Order Easter Tour to USA with concerts at Radio City Music Hall and a gig at Coachella Festival in California.

“New Order have always looked forward, both musically and culturally, so taking our tour to Dubai makes total sense to us,” says Sumner, the lead singer who also works the guitars, keyboard and synthesisers in the band.

“It’s been a long time coming, so we’re looking forward to exploring and playing to a new crowd.”

New Order took off in the 80s after the disbanding of the rock band Joy Division, adding to the Manchester music scene by combining post-punk rock with synthetic beats of electronic music. Their danceable hits include True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle and World in Motion, composed for the 1990s football World Cup Finals. Their prolific body of work goes back to the late 1980s with albums like Low-Life, Brotherhood, Substance and Technique. After that, they began releasing albums with short breaks, like Republic in 1993 and Waiting for the Sirens' Call in 2005.

After 10 years, they released their 10th studio album Music Complete in 2015, which features vocal from Iggy Pop, Brandon Flowers and Elly Jackson of La Roux.

New Order will play at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium on April 7. Tickets are from Dh349 on www.platinumlist.net and The Irish Village retail shop.
