Fashion icon, co-host on E! News, breast-cancer survivor: these are just a few of Giuliana Rancic's many roles and accomplishments. The 40-year-old American celebrity is a household name in the region, and she is coming to Dubai with her husband Bill to host a New Year's Eve party, launch the 20th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival and set up a pop-up shop for her fashion line, G by Giuliana. We caught up with the star ahead of her visit.
How excited are you about hosting a New Year’s Eve bash here and launching your line at DSF?
I’m thrilled. This is the first time Bill and I will be visiting the city, so we have a long list of places we’d like to check out during our stay, especially the shopping malls and the Burj Khalifa. The launch of DSF and the #DXBNYE bash will be a special occasion. I have been overwhelmed by the welcoming response we’ve had on Twitter since we announced our arrival, so the event is a fantastic way to meet our fans in Dubai. Hosting the New Year countdown is a magical experience and it’s exciting to think that Bill and I will have the opportunity to do this on both sides of the globe, from Times Square, New York, to Meydan, Dubai.
Tell us about your pop-up shop.
The G by Giuliana Rancic Pop-up Shop will be a temporary concept store based at The Beach opposite JBR. Dubai will be the first place in the world that gets to see this new collection.
I’ll be opening the shop officially on Thursday and hosting a styling event that evening, followed by a meet-and-greet session. As for the shop itself, you’ll just have to wait for when it is launched in January.
Which performance are you looking forward to the most on New Year’s Eve at Meydan?
Pharrell Williams is super-talented and I have been a fan of his for years. Charli XCX is the hottest new musician in the business and this will be my first time seeing her perform live.
What will Bill be up to while in Dubai?
He will host a business seminar for SMEs in Dubai. He can’t wait to discover what Dubai’s entrepreneurial community has in the pipeline.
What are you looking forward to the most for 2015?
As soon as I get back to Los Angeles, I will be picking out my gowns for Live From the Red Carpet on E!
I love that my Dubai fans can watch the show on OSN. I will be on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, Grammys and Oscars – can’t wait!

What is Financial Fair Play?
Introduced in 2011 by Uefa, European football’s governing body, it demands that clubs live within their means. Chiefly, spend within their income and not make substantial losses.
What the rules dictate?
The second phase of its implementation limits losses to €30 million (Dh136m) over three seasons. Extra expenditure is permitted for investment in sustainable areas (youth academies, stadium development, etc). Money provided by owners is not viewed as income. Revenue from “related parties” to those owners is assessed by Uefa's “financial control body” to be sure it is a fair value, or in line with market prices.
What are the penalties?
There are a number of punishments, including fines, a loss of prize money or having to reduce squad size for European competition – as happened to PSG in 2014. There is even the threat of a competition ban, which could in theory lead to PSG’s suspension from the Uefa Champions League.
