Another day, another Pokémon party. Further proof of the virtual game’s invasion of the real world comes with news that Dubai nightspot VIP Room is getting in on the act with a themed party of its own.
Few details are known at this stage, but a mail-out from the club promises to offer “a playful twist to Dubai partygoers’ Tuesday night”.
The party takes place on July 26 with the club, based in the JW Marriott Marquis, normally opening from 11pm. Reservations on 052 881 8888 or bookings@viproom-dubai.com
Pokemon fans in the UAE should head down to Societe Dubai Marina on Thursday, July 28, for what the popular retro nightclub is billing as the UAE’s first Pokemon Go! party for over 21s.
The club promises a giant Pokeball pool which party goers can dive into and hunt for stuffed Pokemon toys, as well as giant Pokemon wandering the club for a photo opportunity.
The club will also be laying Pokemon lures during the night as well. Google tells us that Pokemon lures are cunning devices players can purchase with real world money and lay them at Pokestops to attract Pokemon.
Conveniently, Societe recently became a Pokestop. If all that virtual hunting gets too much, you’ll also be able to sit back with a Pokemon-themed beverage, and the whole night will take place to the club’s usual nineties retro soundtrack - ideal for the nineties characters - with Pokemon cartoons playing on the big screens.
Societe owner Gary Holliday says: "At Societe we're all about the best of days gone by. We want to be the first to host a party in honour of the game and it's older players. Why let the kids have all the fun?" • Societe's Pokemon Party runs from 10pm-3am, admission is free. For more information or bookings call 050 357 1126.
