Vintage US pop-rock group Toto will headline the opening night of next year’s Dubai Jazz Festival.
The nostalgia-friendly, 1980s hitmakers will perform on February 24, in the first of three concerts to be hosted at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.
Toto return to the venue after performing to a sell-out crowd at the festival in 2007.
Formed nearly four decades ago in Los Angeles, the Grammy-winning, quartet are best known for 1982's radio-friendly hits Africa and Rosanna.
Support on the opening night will come from Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, a revolving collective known for quirky, jazz-flavoured YouTube covers of pop hits. Takes of Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop and Meghan Trainor's All About That [Upright] Bass have clocked 14 million clicks apiece.
Taking place between February 24-26, Toto will kick off the 14th edition of the annual Dubai Jazz Festival, which claims to have attracted more than 428,000 audience members over the years.
The 2015 edition saw the event return to its birthplace Media City, in a slimmed down three-day format, after three nine-day events at Dubai Festival City. More than 35,000 people turned out for headline performances by John Legend, Sting and James Blunt.
“As we travel the globe, this appearance is one that all of us have looked forward to for some time now,” said Toto frontman and founder Steve Lukather.
“We are as excited about this one as our fans over in Dubai are.”

Pox that threatens the Middle East's native species
Camelpox
Caused by a virus related to the one that causes human smallpox, camelpox typically causes fever, swelling of lymph nodes and skin lesions in camels aged over three, but the animal usually recovers after a month or so. Younger animals may develop a more acute form that causes internal lesions and diarrhoea, and is often fatal, especially when secondary infections result. It is found across the Middle East as well as in parts of Asia, Africa, Russia and India.
Falconpox
Falconpox can cause a variety of types of lesions, which can affect, for example, the eyelids, feet and the areas above and below the beak. It is a problem among captive falcons and is one of many types of avian pox or avipox diseases that together affect dozens of bird species across the world. Among the other forms are pigeonpox, turkeypox, starlingpox and canarypox. Avipox viruses are spread by mosquitoes and direct bird-to-bird contact.
Houbarapox
Houbarapox is, like falconpox, one of the many forms of avipox diseases. It exists in various forms, with a type that causes skin lesions being least likely to result in death. Other forms cause more severe lesions, including internal lesions, and are more likely to kill the bird, often because secondary infections develop. This summer the CVRL reported an outbreak of pox in houbaras after rains in spring led to an increase in mosquito numbers.
