Akshay Kumar to play villain in new drama starring Rajinikanth

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will play a villain in the superhero sci-fi film Robot 2, a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot), starring Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and directed by S. Shankar.

The action drama, which has begun filming, is being shot in 3-D and will be released in Tamil and Hindi in 2017, with Rajinikanth reprising his role.

Kumar confirmed the news of Twitter for his fans:

“Ending the year on a high note. Super excited to be a part of Robot 2 with the one & only @superstarrajini sir!” he wrote.

Robot 2 is rumoured to be one of the most expensive Indian films ever made with an estimated budget of US$40m. Kumar was in the UAE in 2015 to shoot his upcoming film Airlift, due out in March 2016. The thriller is set in Kuwait during the Gulf War.
