Adventures of the Black Square: Abstract Art and Society 1915 to 2015 exhibit – in pictures

  • Arabic

Beginning with one of the radical ‘black square’ paintings of Kazimir Malevich, exhibited at a famed 1915 show in St Petersburg, a new exhibition in London takes us on a journey tracing a century of abstract art. Divided into four themes – communication, utopia, architectonics (the study of artistic structure), and the everyday – Adventures of the Black Square has 100 works by 100 artists. It takes a look at this new art for a modern age and asks how art relates to society and politics. Adventures of the Black Square: Abstract Art and Society 1915 to 2015 runs at the Whitechapel Gallery, London, from January 15.
