Abu Dhabi Art is back for its sixth edition at Manarat Al Saadiyat from November 5 to 8, with talks, live performances and dozens of participating international and local artists, collectors and art galleries.
The festival, organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA), is inspired by the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim museums due to open on Saadiyat Island.
“Abu Dhabi Art 2014 will celebrate the forthcoming opening of Abu Dhabi museums and finds inspiration in the spirit of the future museums’ collections,” says Rita Aoun-Abdo, the executive director, Culture Sector, TCA.
Part of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection will be on display in the exhibition Seeing Through Light, which opens in parallel with Abu Dhabi Art.
The 2014 festival also boasts two performing arts programmes – Durub Al Tawaya, which explores the tawaya (spaces) of the city, and Hours and Colours, which marks the experience of every visitor with ever-changing interactive content.
Beyond, a programme offering public art presentations throughout Abu Dhabi, will display with sculptures and installations by François Morellet, Subodh Gupta, Mohammed Kazem, Shilpa Gupta, Sahand Hesamiyan and Ai Wei Wei, among others. Other events include The Wings Project, where emerging Emirati artists and designers will reimagine the Abu Dhabi Art “wing” logo.
Anarchitect, a UAE-based architecture firm, has been commissioned to re-imagine the atrium of Manarat Al Saadiyat, conceiving a space for Artyfact, the shop at Manarat Al Saadiyat, and the presentation of work by UAE designers.
